Frequently Asked Questions Bookmark and Share

  • HOW LONG TO YOU SING FOR?

Well this all depends which part of the day you book me for... Examples below.

  • CEREMONY

During a church/civil ceremony, I have been asked to sing the brides' entry song, a couple of contemporary love songs whilst the bride & groom are signing the register, and then the bride & grooms exit song. It all depends on whether you are having a traditional, or more contemporary wedding service. Always ask the minister of your church before booking me if it is okay to have a live singer during your ceremony, as some are very accommodating, and some would prefer that you didn't! This can sometimes be overcome by just having me perform during the “signing of the register”. A great way to keep your wedding guests, especially any younger ones, focused whilst you are busy having photographs taken etc

  • DO YOU SING CLASSICAL MUSIC?

No, my repertoire is made up of contemporary love songs by artists such as Eva Cassidy, Shania Twain, Katie Melua, Rod Stewart, Carly Simon. Please click here to view my full song list.

  • CHAMPAGNE WEDDING RECEPTION/WEDDING BREAKFAST

As guests arrive at your chosen venue, I can perform laid back love songs, lasting for an hour before your guests are seated for the wedding breakfast. Alternatively, I can sing 3 x 20 minute spots which I perform in between the courses of the wedding breakfast being served. By the last spot, guests like to join in, singing well known favourites, relaxing any nerves before the speeches!

  • EVENING ENTERTAINMENT

During the evening, I perform 2 x 45 minute sets. Preferably one before the buffet and the second after the buffet when everyone has finished eating and are ready for none stop dancing. If you book my own DJ, he will introduce me and play music in between my performances, and then take over, playing favourites up until the end of the party. The reason why I always ask not to perform whilst the buffet is being served is because your guests will be concentrating on the food and at this point, would prefer to eat, chat, and simply have some disco music playing in the background. It's always best to designate 45 minutes to an hour for food from serving.

  • CAN YOU SING OUR “FIRST DANCE WEDDING SONG”?

If you see your chosen song in my repertoire list, yes! If you have a song that you would like me to learn, I will do my best to learn it, provided I can get hold of a quality backing track in the correct key for my voice. Please let me know your chosen choice as soon as you decide, as this will give me plenty of time to rehearse and perfect it before your big day. A small charge of £25-00 will be added to cover backing track expenses and time taken to learn the song.

  • WHEN DO YOU PERFORM OUR FIRST DANCE?

Many couples think that the evening party should start straight away with me singing at 7.30 p.m. Often, evening guests arrive and want to catch up with family members or friends, and generally people are relaxing for the first time during the day. I would suggest that I start no earlier than 8.15pm and sing 3 or 4 songs to get your guests “warmed up”. Also, if guests are in different rooms, this gives them chance to make it into the main room, so they don't miss your first dance. I will introduce you onto the dancefloor and perform your song live, or have it on playback. I then “build up” your evening reception party from here!

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO SET UP/SOUND CHECK?

On average, around 45 minutes. As it is common for the afternoon wedding breakfast to take place in the same room as the evening reception, please remember to allow additional time to move tables and chairs if necessary. If things are running over, please allow a bit of extra time before your evening reception will start. Please try not to encourage your guests to come into the room whilst setting up, as it can spoil the “surprise” of having a singer, and distract from doing sound checks etc.

  • DO YOU HAVE LIGHTING?

Yes, I use the "iColour" lighting system which is versatile and very compact. It is designed to cover a dance floor or stage area. The isolution icolour3 is designed to bathe an area in more than 32 different pre-set colours. However, I would add that if your chosen venue is vast, or in a marquee, I would suggest for maximum effect, more lighting to be used. I can help to advise you on this upon your enquiry.

  • CAN WE CHOOSE WHICH SONGS YOU PERFORM?

Partly. I'm sometimes asked not to perform certain tracks and certain other songs may be favoured from my song list. It is better to leave the general setlist to my experience as I will judge the mood of the evening and make certain changes to my set list accordingly.

  • CAN WE GIVE YOUR DJ A LIST OF SONGS FOR THE DISCO?

Yes... I'd be happy to take on board a list of "do's" and "don'ts" for the disco. But please remember that not all great songs are suitable for dancing to and your favourite songs won't always be appropriate for a wedding. Trying to provide a balance of music to suit the people on the floor at the time is really the only way to really make a party swing.

  • WILL YOUR DJ TAKE REQUESTS ON THE NIGHT?

Yes. However, judgement will be used to make sure that requests are appropriate to the evening.

  • WHAT TIME DO YOU AND YOUR DJ FINISH AT?

We have a set finish time of 12.30am. If you require a different finish time, please mention this at the time of booking.

  • HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?

The cost depends largely on what parts of the day you would like me to perform at. The more you book, the more discount you receive! There are also a couple of other factors to consider including the location or any other individual special requirements. I can email you information about various packages and prices etc upon your request.

  • HOW MUCH IS THE BOOKING DEPOSIT?

I ask for £100.00 deposit to secure your booking once you have received a contract which I ask you to sign, and send the carbon copy back to me along with your deposit. (All this is explained with your booking in the paperwork).

  • WHEN DO WE NEED TO PAY THE BALANCE?

The final balance is required two weeks before the engagement date.

  • DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

Yes, I am a member of the Musicians Union which means I have adequate Public Liability Insurance. However, the client is liable to pay for any damage of the artist's equipment caused by drunken, disorderly or any other inappropriate behaviour of guests attending the function or event.

  • DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS?

I just ask during the period of the event, perhaps some light refreshment and suitable, lockable changing facilities.

  • CAN WE SEE YOU LIVE, BEFORE WE BOOK?

As I perform at a lot of private parties, this isn't always an option. However, I do certain wedding fayres during the course of the year, so you could always pop along to one of those instead.

  • ARE YOU RESTRICTED TO PERFORM AT JUST WEDDINGS?

No! I am a versatile performer and can perform at a surprise party, a house warming…. No venue is too large (or small!) Feel free to get in touch to discuss and I can accommodate your requirements.
